CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

Is in his third season with the D-backs and second as bench coach…served as interim bench coach during Ron Gardenhire's absence due to prostate cancer surgery in April 2017 and remained on staff the rest of the season… was originally hired as the organization's Triple-A manager.

COACHING CAREER

Served on the coaching staffs with Milwaukee (2011-15, bench coach), Cincinnati (2004-05, bench), Boston (2003, bench), Texas (1995-2001, third base) and Baltimore (1993; bench; 1994, third base) ... Was third base coach for Israel at the 2017 World Baseball Classic qualifier ... Managed 5 seasons in the Majors with the Rangers (2001-02) and Reds (2005-07)…in 2006, finished sixth in NL Manager of the Year voting…took over as Rangers manager on May 4, 2001 and Reds manager on June 21, 2005.

PLAYING CAREER

Played 8 seasons in the Majors as a catcher with the Yankees (1979), Mari - ners (1980-81, '87) and Angels (1983- 86)...signed with the Yankees as their sixth-round pick in the 1974 draft...Was the Yankees' catcher on Aug. 3, 1979 vs. Orioles, the day after Thurman Munson was killed in a plane crash. Recorded his first Major League hit off Hall of Famer Jim Palmer on April 19, 1979 vs. Orioles (single)...Hit his first home run (solo) off Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley on July 1, 1979 vs. Red Sox.

PERSONAL

Married to Donna...has 5 daughters, Callie, Caitlyn, Clare, Cara and Chelsy, and 2 sons, Connor and Hunter ... Son, Connor, played 5 Minor League seasons with the Orioles (2010-13) and Brewers (2014) ... Brother, Johnny, was the Brewers' hitting coach from 2012-14 ... Uncle, Sam, played with the Cardinals (1935, '42-43) and was a coach with the Pirates (1951-64).
