Top prospect Nelson called up to start Saturday

The Brewers recalled right-hander Jimmy Nelson from Triple-A Nashville following their 9-1 loss to the Phillies on Thursday. He will start Saturday vs. St. Louis.

In a corresponding roster move, the club placed lefty Wei-Chung Wang on the 15-day disabled list with left shoulder tightness.

To make room in the starting rotation, Marco Estrada, who was originally slated to start Saturday, has been sent to the bullpen. His 27 home runs allowed are by far the most in the Majors and his 4.96 ERA is more than a run higher than any other Brewers starter.

Nelson, who was named a Pacific Coast League All-Star earlier this month, appeared in four games with the Brewers last September and made a spot start on May 25 this season against Miami in place of injured Yovani Gallardo. The 25-year-old pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings and gave up five hits and three walks to earn his first career big league victory.

Nelson, Milwaukee's No. 1 prospect according to MLB.com, is 10-2 in with a 1.46 ERA 16 starts with Nashville this season.

Fiers earns All-Star honors at Triple-A Nashville

MILWAUKEE -- Triple-A Nashville right-hander Mike Fiers, who won nine games for the Brewers in 2012, was added to the Pacific Coast League All-Star team by the league office.

Fiers is 6-4 at Nashville with a 2.63 ERA, fourth best in the PCL.

The 29-year-old Fiers also made four relief appearances in mid-June with the Brewers, posting an 0-1 record with a 2.57 ERA.

In 2012 with the Brewers, Fiers was 8-6 with a 2.88 ERA in his first 16 starts before going 1-4 with a 7.09 ERA in his last six starts. He struggled early in '13, going 1-4 with a 7.25 ERA before being sent down. His season ended in mid-June when he sustained a broken right forearm when he was hit by a line drive.
