Last year's All-Star Game sticks out for Roenicke
Brewers manager cheered on Prince's big homer in Midsummer Classic

"I like when our players can go to a big stage like that and perform to the point where he ended up winning the ballgame," Roenicke said.Roenicke will be an All-Star himself this season, an invited member of NL manager Tony La Russa's staff in Kansas City on July 10. That in itself is interesting; Roenicke's Brewers and La Russa's Cardinals made no qualms last season about their distaste of each other, a rivalry that went all the way to Game 6 of the NL Championship Series. But the men have begun their relationship anew now that La Russa has retired. Roenicke said he spoke to the former Cardinals skipper at length about last season's battles before accepting La Russa's All-Star invitation. In Kansas City, Roenicke's focus will be on his players. The manager has the annual honor of informing players they had made the All-Star team, and that makes for memories in itself. "That's always a good part," Roenicke said. "There's so many negative things in the game, that when you get to do things in the positive end, it's really why we coach and why we manage. We want good things to happen to all these guys. ... "All these guys, their goals are to win World Series, but also to perform to a level where people realize that they are an All-Star. For me to tell a guy that he's going to the All-Star Game, it's pretty fun to do."
