Brewers romp, but Capuano hurt

Munson goes 3-for-3; starter exits early with soreness

Mariners at the plate: First baseman Richie Sexson continued his hot hitting, with his second home run and a single. He has five hits in his last six at-bats and is now 11-for-37 this spring. Right fielder Wladimir Balentien hit his team-high third home run on the first pitch after Sexson's home run. Mike Morse and Matt Tuiasosopo each had a double.

Brewers at the plate: Designated hitter Brendan Katin doubled twice and drove in six runs, while catcher Eric Munson singled, hit his first home run and also drove in three runs. Third baseman Craig Counsell and right fielder Corey Hart added two hits apiece.

Mariners on the mound: Starter Carlos Silva tested out his cutter for the first time in a game this spring and it was not terribly effective. Most of the seven consecutive hits he allowed in the fifth inning came on that pitch.

Brewers on the mound: Left-handed starter Chris Capuano departed in the fourth inning after experiencing tightness in his left elbow. He returned to the team's Spring Training complex in Phoenix to be examined. Left-hander Chris Narveson tossed 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, striking out four and walking one.

Cactus League records: Mariners 8-11-1; Brewers 14-6-1.

Mariners up next: The only off-day of the spring gives the Mariners a little break before heading into the stretch run of the Cactus League schedule. The team returns to action on Wednesday night, facing the Diamondbacks in a 7:05 p.m. PT game at Peoria Stadium. Left-hander Jarrod Washburn makes his fourth start of the spring, still looking for his first win but sporting a solid 2.25 ERA.

Brewers up next: Relievers Derrick Turnbow, Salomon Torres and Eric Gagne, who have each made their last two appearances in Minor League camp, will return to Cactus League action on Tuesday with an inning apiece against the Angels in Tempe. Jeff Suppan is scheduled to start the game for Milwaukee against Los Angeles left-hander Joe Saunders. Back at Maryvale Baseball Park, Brewers right-hander Yovani Gallardo is to throw his third round of live batting practice, perhaps the final hurdle before Gallardo pitches in a game. Gallardo underwent knee surgery on Feb. 19 and probably will not be ready to join Milwaukee's rotation until mid-April.
