MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Brewers today named Bruce Seid as the Club's Director of Amateur Scouting and named Ray Montgomery as Assistant Director of Amateur Scouting. The announcements were made by Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Melvin.

"Bruce brings a tireless work ethic and passion to the position," said Melvin. "He has strong evaluating skills and will use his managing skills to put together a strong amateur scouting staff that will be responsible to feed our player development system."

Seid, 46, has spent 11 seasons with the Brewers, including the past two as West Coast crosschecker. He joined the Brewers as an amateur scout in November 1997 and spent nine seasons (1998-2006) in that role. He replaces Jack Zduriencik who was hired by the Seattle Mariners as Executive Vice President and General Manager on October 22, 2008.

Seid worked as an amateur scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates during the 1997 season. He began his scouting career as a part-time scout with San Diego in 1992, followed by four seasons as a pro scout in the Padres organization from 1993-96.

A former fourth round draft selection of the Chicago Cubs in 1980, Seid spent three seasons in the minor leagues and was named to the Gulf Coast League All-Star Team during his first professional season. Seid resides in Capistrano Beach, California with his wife Erika.

Montgomery, 39, has spent six seasons with the Brewers, including the past two seasons as Midwest crosschecker. He joined the Brewers as an area scout for South Texas and Louisiana in December 2002. In that role, he was responsible for the scouting and signing of current Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks (2003 First-Year Player Draft).

Montgomery, who was selected by the Houston Astros in the 1990 June Draft, enjoyed a 13-year playing career as an outfielder, including three seasons at the Major League level from 1996-98. In addition to his time in the Houston organization (1990-98), he also played in the minor leagues for Pittsburgh (1999-2000) and New York-NL (2001). Montgomery resides in Houston, Texas with his wife Daniela and children, Jack and Emma.

In addition, the Brewers promoted Zack Minasian to Manager of Minor League Scouting Personnel/Coordinator of Pro Scouting. He is entering his fifth season with the Brewers after joining the organization as a Baseball Operations Assistant in 2005. He spent the past two seasons as Coordinator of Professional Scouting.

"Ray and Zack both have great futures in our game and they have been elevated to positions with more managing responsibilities," said Melvin. "I have a lot of confidence in their abilities and decision making."
