MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Brewers today purchased the contract of 3B Ryan Braun from Triple-A Nashville. He will wear uniform No. 8 and will be making his Major League debut. He is expected to join the team tomorrow in San Diego.

Braun, 23, was selected by the Brewers in the first round (fifth overall) of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Miami. He batted .342 with 10 HR, 22 RBIs and 4 stolen bases in 33 games for Nashville this season. He entered the season as the second-best prospect in the organization according to Baseball America, behind only RHP Yovani Gallardo. Braun was a non-roster invitee to Spring tTraining and batted .353 (12-for-34) with 5 HR and 15 RBIs in 11 games before he was returned to minor-league camp on March 19.

Braun was named 2006 Brewers Minor League Player of the Year, as he batted .289 with 22 HR, 77 RBIs and 26 stolen bases in 118 games between Class A Brevard County and Double-A Huntsville last season. Following the season, he played for the Scottsdale Scorpions of the Arizona Fall League, where he was named to the All-Prospect Team, batting .326 with 6 HR, 25 RBIs and 4 stolen bases in 25 games.

In a corresponding roster move, RHP Elmer Dessens was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 19, with a right shoulder strain. Dessens was 1-1 with a 6.60 ERA in 12 relief appearances for the Brewers this season. He was acquired from Los Angeles on March 26 in exchange for OF Brady Clark and cash considerations.
