MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Brewers tonight acquired veteran third baseman Corey Koskie from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for Minor League right-handed pitcher Brian Wolfe. The announcement was made today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Melvin.

Koskie, 32, will be entering his ninth season in the Major Leagues. A career .277 hitter, the left-handed hitting Koskie has blasted 112 career home runs, including six seasons in double-digits. This past season with Toronto, Koskie was limited to 97 games due to more than two months on the disabled list with a fractured right thumb. For the season, he hit .249 with 11 homers and 36 RBI. In the four seasons prior to 2005, Koskie averaged 20 homers and 78 RBI. His best year came in 2001 when he hit .276 with 26 homers and 103 RBI. A free agent following the 2004 season, Koskie signed a three-year deal with the Blue Jays and remains under contract through 2007.

"Corey is a demonstrated run producer, has excellent defensive skills and brings post-season experience with him to our ballclub," Melvin said. "His all-around abilities will be a key ingredient to our mix as we look to get to the next level competitively."

In his eight years, Koskie has appeared in the post-season three times, each coming with the Minnesota Twins (2002, 2003, 2004). He was drafted by the Twins in 1994 and played with the organization through the 2004 season. In December of that year he was signed as a free agent by Toronto.

To make room for Koskie on the 40-man roster, the Brewers will need to designate a player for assignment on Monday, January 9.

Wolfe, 25, was signed as a Minor League free agent by the Brewers on May 23, 2005 after beginning the season with the Twins organization. Prior to signing with the Brewers, Wolfe went 0-2 with an 8.53 ERA for Triple A Rochester and 1-0 with a 7.04 ERA for Double A New Britain in a combined eight. In two stops in the Brewers system last year, he went 1-1 with a 0.79 ERA for Class A Brevard County (18 games) and 3-1 with a 3.38 ERA for Double A Huntsville (16 games). All of Wolfe's games last season were in relief.
