Jeter gives pregame speech to AL All-Stars
In 14th and final ASG, Yankees captain shares memorable words with squad
Before Derek Jeter went 2-for-2 in his 14th and final All-Star Game on Tuesday night at Target Field, the Yankees captain and baseball icon spoke to the American League squad before it took the field.
"It's an honor and a privilege to be here," Jeter said. "To the guys and the younger guys who are getting the opportunity to come to their first, enjoy it. Because I can tell you firsthand, this is a fun experience. You should share it with your families, your friends -- remember it. You don't know how many of these you're going to get an opportunity to play in. And, more importantly, remember that every time you put your uniform on because, trust me, it goes by quickly."
Jeter doubled in his first at-bat against Adam Wainwright and came around to score on a triple by Mike Trout. He singled against Alfredo Simon in the third before exiting to a standing ovation before the top of the fourth.
