Outfielder Joey Butler, who was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Monday, has been claimed on waivers by the St. Louis Cardinals.

Butler, 27, made his major league debut with Texas this season, batting .333 (4-12) with 2 doubles and one RBI. He spent the rest of the year with Triple-A Round Rock, batting .291 (124-426) with 12 home runs and 51 RBI. Butler was originally selected by Texas in the 15th round of the 2008 June draft.
