Texas Rangers receive INF Adam Rosales on waiver claim from Oakland A's
Rosales expected to join club on Tuesday; club will make corresponding roster move on Tuesday
Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has received infielder Adam Rosales on a waiver claim from the Oakland A's.
Rosales, who will wear #9, is expected to be added to the active roster prior to Tuesday's game with Milwaukee in Arlington. The Rangers will make a corresponding roster move to make room for Rosales prior to Tuesday's game.
This marks the second time that Texas has received Rosales on a waiver claim in the last 10 days. The Rangers claimed him from Oakland on August 2 and added him to the active roster that day. Rosales was active for three games but did not see any action and was designated for assignment on August 5. He was claimed by Oakland on August 8 and played in one game for the A's, going 0-for-1 as a pinch-runner and shortstop on August 9 at Toronto. He was designated for assignment by Oakland on August 10.
Rosales, 30, is batting .191 (26-136) with 5 doubles, 4 homers and 8 RBI in 51 games/34 starts with Oakland in 2013. The right-handed batter has seen action at shortstop (36 games/33 starts), second base (13 games), third base (2 games/1 start), and left field (1 game).
He opened 2013 on the disabled list with a strained left intercostal muscle and went 6-for-12 with a homer in 3 games on rehab assignment at Single-A Stockton before being activated on April 25. Rosales was designated for assignment on July 8 and outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento on July 12. He batted .211 with 6 RBI in 9 games for the River Cats before rejoining Oakland on July 24. Rosales was 0-for-5 in 2 games before he was designated for assignment for the first time by the A's on July 31.
Rosales has a career average of .220 with 19 homers and 76 RBI in 302 career major league games with Cincinnati (2008-09) and Oakland (2010-13). He set career bests with 7 homers and 31 RBI in 80 games with the A's in 2010. Rosales was a 12th round selection of the Reds in the 2005 1st Year Player Draft.
With the addition of Rosales, the Rangers are the 40-player limit on their major league roster.
