CINCINNATI -- Corey Hart has been on quite a roll, even though the Brewers have not.

Hart went 3-for-4 with two home runs and two RBIs in Monday night's loss to the Reds. It was Hart's seventh career multi-homer game.

In his past three games, Hart is 7-for-12 with four homers and seven RBIs.

"He's getting the head of the bat out on some fastballs," said Brewers manager Ken Macha. "He's getting good extension."

With Jim Edmonds on the 15-day disabled list and Carlos Gomez out on a Minor League rehab assignment beginning Wednesday, Hart has been getting regular playing time.

"Even when he's not in the lineup, he's getting his work in," said Macha of Hart. "I told him, 'I won't bury anybody.' You'll play."

Edmonds to DL; Estrada recalled

CINCINNATI -- The Brewers on Tuesday placed outfielder Jim Edmonds on the 15-day disabled list and recalled from Triple-A Nashville right-hander Marco Estrada.

Estrada, who went 1-2 with a 3.15 ERA in seven appearances for the Sounds, all starts, gives the Brewers added depth in their beleaguered bullpen.

Estrada's arrival also means the Brewers will be carrying 13 pitchers and short one bat off the bench.

"There were all kinds of things we could do," said Brewers manager Ken Macha. "We need to get some guys in the bullpen some rest. We'll be carrying 13 pitchers. We'll be missing a position player on an already short bench."

Edmonds, who left Saturday's game after straining his left oblique muscle on a check-swing in the second inning, had been listed as day-to-day and was improving steadily.

But, Brewers trainer Roger Caplinger told Macha that the 39-year-old Edmonds would need four or five days to fully recover.

Edmonds, who is on the DL retroactive to Sunday, is batting .280 with three home runs and eight RBIs in 27 games, including 22 starts.

Due to a neck strain, Estrada pitched sparingly in Spring Training. But, the reports on him at Triple-A have been positive.

"He has good sink on his fastball," said Macha. "His changeup is probably his second-best pitch."

In 40 innings, Estrada walked 11, struck out 33 and allowed just one home run. His 33 Ks rank fifth in the Brewers' Minor League system.

In his last outing on Friday against Tacoma, Estrada tossed seven innings, allowing one run and four hits, walked two and struck out eight.

Estrada, who was claimed off waivers from the Nationals on Feb. 3, was expected to arrive at Great American Ball Park prior to Tuesday's game.

"He'll be out of the bullpen today," said Macha. "We don't know how much [starter Manny] Parra will give us. We're doing our best to make sure we're covered."

Narveson to make start Thursday

CINCINNATI -- After speculation that the Brewers might decide to give him an extra day of rest, Chris Narveson officially has been cleared to make his scheduled start on Thursday.

Narveson threw a career-high 130 pitches in just 5 2/3 innings on Saturday, prompting the Brewers to consider pushing him back in the rotation.

Narveson threw long toss on Monday at Great American Ball Park and has been getting additional work in with the training staff. Brewers manager Ken Macha gave Narveson the thumbs-up on Monday.

"I feel great," said Narveson. "The trainers did a great job with my workouts. I took it a little bit easy in the bullpen. I've just been trying to stretch things out."
