From the steel and the roof to the seats and the field, Miller Park is awash in green -- and the ballpark continues to get greener. Having launched their "Brewing a Greener Game" sustainability initiative in 2011, the Brewers will host their second annual "Green Week" when the Club hosts the Toronto Blue Jays in June.
Since the beginning of the 2010 season, the Brewers -- in collaboration with Johnson Controls -- have enhanced their measures to green up their overall operations in all areas from increased recycling and energy efficiency to purchasing environmentally friendly products.
From June 18-21, the Club will showcase many of those measures and emphasize the importance of environmental sustainability through green-themed promotions and community events.
Since embarking on a more comprehensive sustainability program, the Brewers have significantly decreased energy and water usage, increased its recycling, and diverted more than 35% of the team's waste from landfills. In recognition of the Brewers efforts and accomplishments, Miller Park recently received one of the most prestigious honors for facility sustainability and conservation efforts, having achieved LEED certification in the category of Existing Building Operations & Maintenance. Miller Park is the first stadium with a retractable roof -- and just the third Major League Baseball stadium overall -- to receive the designation.
On Wednesday, June 20, the Brewers will again team up with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) to plant their commitment to the "Root, Root, Root For The Brewers Plant-A-Tree" program. Through the program, the Brewers will purchase one tree for every 20,000 tickets sold, offsetting the number of trees used to print the Club's 2012 regular season tickets. In 2011, after drawing 3,071,373 fans, the Brewers planted 154 trees along the Hank Aaron State Trail (between 60th and 68th Street).
Updated through April 8, 2012
On Thursday, June 21, the Brewers plan to host their second eCycling event in collaboration with Waste Management.
In 2011, at the inaugural eCycling event, fans dropped off household items of unused or unwanted electronic equipment covered under the "E-Cycle Wisconsin" program at trailers in the Miller Park parking lots.
Before the Brewers vs. Twins game at 1:10 p.m., join the Friends of Hank Aaron State Trail, Menomonee Valley Partners and fellow cyclists for a ride along the Hank Aaron State Trail to Miller Park.
Participants in this free* event must register at one of
two starting locations: the Harley-Davidson Museum® (6th and Canal Street, west
parking lot) or the State Fair Park and Ride (76th Street) beginning at 10:00am
on the morning of the ride. All participants must sign a waiver
(17kb) – available at
either starting location – prior to participating in the ride. See instructions for
registration, parking and ride route.
The first 500 participants to finish the ride will receive a commemorative water bottle and a voucher for two free tickets to a future Brewers game.
* Tickets to the Brewers vs. Twins game must be purchased separately. Individuals participating in the Bike to the Ballpark event are not required to attend the game.
