2009 BREWERS CHARITIES/ALLAN H. SELIG SCHOLARS PROGRAM & CAMERON, HOFFMAN, SUPPAN & WEEKS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The Brewers Charities/Allan H. Selig Scholars Program was created in the name of former Brewers' President and current Commissioner of Baseball Allan H. (Bud) Selig. Funding for the scholarships is the result of proceeds donated by Major League Baseball, from the All-Star Workout Day, part of the 2002 All-Star festivities held at Miller Park. Commissioner Selig has deep ties to Milwaukee and Wisconsin and he has also had a long-term commitment to educational excellence. A graduate of Washington High School in Milwaukee and the University of Wisconsin, Commissioner Selig believes the opportunity to pursue a college education should be made available to all young people, particularly those who show great promise but are unable to afford it. So far, nearly fifty students have been awarded scholarships under the program.

In 2009, up to five students, who must be graduating seniors from the Class of 2009 in Wisconsin high schools, will be selected for the scholarships. The scholarships must be directed to a college or university based in the State of Wisconsin. Students can receive up to $2,500, renewable each year and up to $10,000 over four years, depending on their course of study.
Additionally, in 2009 we will offer four, new scholarships in the amount of $5,000 each to students - undergraduate or graduate - thanks to Milwaukee Brewers players Mike Cameron, Trevor Hoffman, Jeff Suppan and Rickie Weeks who have each contributed to a new pot of scholarship money. The scholarships will be aimed at but not limited to students who wish to pursue careers in sports management, sports journalism, sports marketing, sports medicine or a related field. Scholarships are based on grades, attendance, extracurricular activities and financial need. Preference for these scholarships will be given to students who plan to attend or are currently attending colleges and universities in Wisconsin. The Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce, which has been operating its own scholarship program for qualified, low-income students since 1991, provides administrative support to the Brewers Charities/Selig Scholars/Player Scholarship Program.
Brewers Charities scholarship application and essay must have been submitted by Monday, April 13, 2009.
