Community Leaders

The Astros Community Leaders Program

The Community Leaders program provides newly renovated baseball and softball fields to Houston-area children through an $18 million investment in city-owned public parks over a five year period. Developed by Astros Owner Jim Crane, the Community Leaders initiative is in collaboration with the City of Houston, local corporations and the Astros Foundation. All renovations and additional safety features are funded by the Community Leaders program at no cost to taxpayers.

To date, 18 fields in seven parks have been renovated with additional refurbishments currently underway. The program also includes year-round field maintenance and currently serves more than 1,200 children. Additional features include player and coaching clinics, complimentary tickets to Astros games, equipment and special visits from Astros players and front office personnel.

The Astros Community Leaders partners are Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, Calpine Corporation, Champion Energy Services, ConocoPhillips, Halliburton, Lexus/Friedkin Group, Nabors Industries, National Oilwell Varco, Occidental Petroleum and Schlumberger.
