The Old Newsboys' Goodfellow Fund of Detroit is a 100-year-old charity founded in 1914 by James J. Brady. The organization includes 300 members whose sole mission is to ensure that there is "No Kiddie without a Christmas." Each holiday season the Detroit Goodfellows distribute holiday gift boxes to children ages four through 13 living in Detroit, Highland Park, River Rouge, Hamtramck and Harper Woods. Each child receives warm clothing, underwear, toys, books and games.

The second annual "Who's Next? Women in Sports" event at Comerica Park will explore the expanding role of women in the professional sports industry. Ellen Hill Zeringue

Enters her seventh full season in her current role and 16th season with the organization after joining the Tigers prior to the 2000 season.

  • Oversees all functions of the club's marketing and promotions departments, including print and broadcast advertising, Tigers.com, multicultural marketing and promotional giveaways.
  • Manages the club's branding strategy and was responsible for the launch of the successful "Who's Your Tiger" campaign, which served as the club's marketing slogan from 2005-08 and returned in 2011.
  • Promoted to her current position during the 2008 season after spending the previous six seasons as director of marketing...originally joined the Tigers as a marketing manager prior to the 2000 season.
  • Prior to joining the Tigers, she served as the director of marketing for WMXD (MIX 92.3 FM) where she was responsible for the station's marketing, imaging and advertising strategies...she also managed special events and consumer relationship marketing during her seven years at WMXD.

Samantha Bourque

Samantha Bourque manages the organization's community engagement strategy. During Samantha's tenure, the Detroit Lions developed an important and timely strategic planning process that resulted in the creation of a new philanthropic directive focused specifically on sustainable community health, wellness, and community development. This new direction, Living for the City, is a formal partnership with community-based organizations that support innovative citizen philanthropy and social entrepreneurship, and is a reflection of the Lions commitment to the city of Detroit's resurgence.

Bourque joined the Lions in 2012 after spending one season with the Plymouth Whalers, serving as a member of the game day and promotions staff. While at the Whalers, she assisted with the execution of youth, charitable and community game day activations and other promotions. Prior to joining the Whalers, Bourque served in the corporate communications unit for Amway where she helped strengthen the organization's communication and public relations strategy, working specifically on content for the organization's corporate blog and other strategic internal communication channels.

Bourque received a Bachelor's of Science in Advertising and Public Relations from Grand Valley State University. While working with the Lions, Bourque studied at George Washington University and earned a certificate in sports philanthropy.

Bourque is a native of Novi, Mich., and is a proud graduate of Novi High School. She currently lives in Grosse Pointe Park.

Christy Hammond

Christy, a graduate of The University of Michigan with a degree in Sport Management & Communication Studies has worked for the Detroit Red Wings since Aug. 2007.

Jeanne Hess

The 2014 season marked the 31st volleyball campaign for Kalamazoo College head coach Jeanne Hess, whose tenure at "K" has been a very successful one. Hess has led the Hornets to five MIAA championships and five NCAA Division III Tournament appearances. Kalamazoo has finished third or higher in the MIAA ten times. Hess reached a personal milestone Oct. 28, 1997 when the Hornets rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win at Albion. That victory was the 100th career MIAA win for the Hornet mentor and gave her an all-time league mark of 100-68 (.595). She earned her 300th career victory in 1998 and 400th on Sept. 6, 2003 against Kenyon. Hess became just the second Kalamazoo College head coach to reach 500 career wins with a 3-1 victory at Albion on Oct. 4, 2011. Her 200th career conference victory came on Sept. 21, 2012 at Albion.

Hess coached her 1,000th game at Kalamazoo College in 2014. Through the 2010 season, Hess ranked 18th among active NCAA III coaches with 495 career wins. She ranks in the top 30 all-time among NCAA III coaches.

The Midwest Region Coach of the Year in 1990 and 1991, Hess served as the AVCA Division III representative to the Board of Directors from 2003-2008. She has previously participated in weekly voting for the American Volleyball Coaches Association National Coaches' Poll and is a past member of the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Ranking Committee.

Hess received her bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan, where she played varsity volleyball for four seasons (1976-80). She earned a master's degree in exercise science from Western Michigan University in 1985 and was inducted into WMU's Alumni Honor Academy for Health, Physical Education and Recreation in April 2010.

In addition to coaching volleyball, Hess serves as professor in and chair of the Department of Physical Education. She currently serves on the board of directors of the Letterwinners M Club. She has served as an assistant in both the women's basketball (1991-95) and softball (1996-2001) programs as well as serving as associate chaplain from 2001-2008. In recognition of her outstanding service, Hess was awarded the College's prestigious Lux Esto Award of Excellence in 2014. Hess and her husband, Jim, reside in Kalamazoo. They have two sons, Andrew and Kevan. Andrew played baseball and earned his B.A. at the University of Michigan and was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 2007. Kevan played baseball at Western Michigan University and was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 2009. Coach Hess published her first book in January of 2012.

Lauren Pober

Lauren Pober has worked extensively in field of sports. Currently the Director of Marketing and Sales Promotion for FOX Sports Detroit, she has previously served as Director of Promotions and Events for the Washington Nationals (MLB); Manager, Business Development for the Chicago White Sox (MLB); Manager, Strategic Marketing for the Florida Panthers (NHL) and as Marketing Manager of the Chicago Enforcers (XFL). Lauren is a graduate of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (B.S. Sports Management).

Adoption Awareness Fundraiser

MARE is a statewide information and referral service for families interested in adopting children from foster care, and for adoption workers looking for homes for these children. The MARE website provides a listing of waiting children in Michigan and of Michigan families interested in adopting children with special needs. There are currently 263 youth with no identified family that are waiting for adoption, and approximately 32% are living in the tri-county area.
