Suppans hosting holiday party for Milwaukee school children12/09/2008 11:15 AM ET
MILWAUKEE -- Brewers starting pitcher Jeff Suppan and his wife Dana are returning to Milwaukee today to host holiday parties at two Milwaukee schools. The first holiday party will be held at 12:15pm on Milwaukee's eastside at Catholic East Elementary School, 2461 N. Murray Street, where the Suppans will deliver gifts and holiday snacks to 143 students at an all-school assembly. Then, they will host a second party at 2:00pm for 212 students at Bruce Guadalupe Middle School, 920 S. 9th Street on the city's near southside. This is the second year that the Suppans have returned to Milwaukee to host holiday events for area school children. Jeff and Dana Suppan pick up all of the costs of the school holiday celebrations.
"Dana and I have been very fortunate and blessed in life and we are happy to be able to give back to the community in this way," said Jeff Suppan. "We can't think of a better way to usher in the holiday season than to do so with a group of young Brewers' fans here in Milwaukee."
Julie Robinson, Principal of Catholic East Elementary and Pascual Rodriguez, Principal of Bruce Guadalupe Middle School will welcome and introduce the Suppans at their respective schools during all-school gatherings. Fr, Mike Michalski, Pastor of Saints Peter and Paul Parish and Fr. Jerry Hessel, Pastor of Our Lady of Divine Providence Parish will also attend the Catholic East holiday celebration. Ricardo Diaz, Executive Director of the United Community Center and Jennifer Steiner, UCC Marketing Director will participate in the Bruce Guadalupe Middle School event. The Suppans are providing students at both schools with holiday snacks and specially-made backpacks with Jeff's autograph and uniform number and the team logo. The backpacks will contain team merchandise, toys and gift cards. The world famous Klement's Racing Sausages will make appearances at both parties and take photos with the students.
The Suppans' community efforts are made possible through their $100,000 annual contribution to Brewers Charities, the official charity of the Milwaukee Brewers. In addition to their annual holiday parties, they have been generous supporters of the Milwaukee County Parks Department for ball field restoration, Felix Mantilla Little League, Beckum-Stapleton Little League, Sojourner Truth House and the American Red Cross for flood relief efforts. They also support the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund and the USO of Wisconsin and were instrumental in creating the camouflage "Soup's Troops" seats at Miller Park, which are utilized during each home game by members of the Armed Forces and their families.
