Jeff Suppan, Milwaukee Brewers and Brewers Charities announce special partnership with the USO of Wisconsin04/21/2008 2:04 PM ET
MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jeff Suppan, the Brewers and Brewers Charities are pleased to team up with the USO of Wisconsin in announcing a program to honor active military personnel and their families during every remaining 2008 regular season game at Miller Park. Beginning with tonight's game and continuing through the final regular season game on September 28, for a total of 75 games, the Brewers will donate four Field Level seats (located behind Home Plate in Section 117, Row 13, Seats 12-15) to active members of the military and to the families of fallen soldiers, inclusive of all branches of the armed forces in Wisconsin. These seats have been specially outfitted with camouflage colors as a tribute to our servicemen and women. In addition, Brewers' pitcher Jeff Suppan will donate $200 in Miller Park vouchers to the guests at each game to be used for merchandise and concessions. As a result of Suppan's ongoing support for military families, the Brewers have named the four camouflage military seats "Soup's Troops" to thank him for his generosity and to honor our troops. "We are extremely proud of all of the men and women that serve our country and we want to provide a memorable experience for the troops and their families at the ballpark," said Brewers Executive Vice President Business Operations Rick Schlesinger. "We thank Jeff Suppan for his contribution to make this program a reality, and we are all honored to welcome our servicemen and women to Miller Park." "This is an initiative that my wife, Dana, and I are very grateful to be involved with," said Suppan. "We are truly thankful and have tremendous respect for all of the heroic efforts demonstrated by our active military, veterans and their families. Their services and sacrifices are an inspiration and we all benefit from their dedication to our country." Suppan, who is involved in numerous community activities, has also pledged to donate $100 for every strikeout he records to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, an organization that helps children and families of US soldiers killed in the line of duty. His gift is being matched by Brewers Charities, the team's official charity. Within the first few days, more than 1,100 emails have been submitted to the USO. Realizing it would not be possible to meet all of the demand for the Soup's Troops seats, Brewers Charities will also donate additional tickets through the Brewers Buddies ticket program. These game tickets are donated by season seatholders, sponsors, players, ownership, and fans. "I would just like to thank Jeff Suppan and the Milwaukee Brewers for the very generous seats that they have offered to all the Military men and women of Wisconsin," said Gunnery Sgt. Jeffrey Semrow, US Marine Corps of the Milwaukee-based Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division , who is representing the USO at today's event. "The ability for us to take our loved ones to a baseball game and to have some of the best seats in the house is really special. For all the members of the military, we want to say thanks." SSG William Becker of Kenosha, also present at today's press conference, and three guests will be the first to occupy the Soup's Troops seats. Sgt. Becker is with the 257th Brigade Support Battalion, US Army National Guard. Throughout the season, the Brewers also provide tickets to members of the United States Armed Forces through Stars and Stripes Sundays. During each Sunday home game, the Brewers offer two FREE Terrace Level tickets to active and military personnel. The offer applies to all branches of the military and is based on ticket availability. Active and retired military personnel must present valid military identification which entitles them to two free Terrace Level tickets redeemable at windows 7-12 at Miller Park on the day of game only. In addition, the Brewers will host Armed Forces Day on Saturday, May 10 when the Brewers take on the St. Louis Cardinals. Tickets are available through the Armed Forces Committee and interested parties can contact John Downing at the United States Coast Guard office at (414) 747-7151 for ticket information. Tickets purchased through the Coast Guard office are offered at a reduced price with a portion of the sale benefitting the Armed Forces Committee.
