MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Brewers today acquired RHP Salomon Torres from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for RHP Marino Salas and RHP Kevin Roberts. The announcement was made by Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Melvin.

"Salomon brings experience and durability to our bullpen," said Melvin. "He has been a workhorse throughout his career and will bring to our staff a multiple-inning reliever."

Torres went 2-4 with a 5.47 ERA and 12 saves in 56 relief appearances for the Pirates last season. He leads all Major League pitchers with 312 appearances from 2004-07, including a career-high 94 in 2006, which led the Majors. Torres has pitched in every type of role in the bullpen and has also made 64 starts during his career (none since 2003).

Torres, 35, is a veteran of 11 Major League seasons spent with San Francisco (1993-95), Seattle (1995-97), Montreal (1997) and Pittsburgh (2002-07). During a three-year retirement from 1998-2000, he served as a coach for the Montreal Expos in the Dominican Summer League.
